Hello...

My name's Deb, how lovely to meet you! I'm so glad you stopped by...

In November 2008 I made my first sock monkey (yep, that's him alright)....and as they say...the rest is history...

In February 2009, Sock It To Me! was born and my life used to consist of Teza by day (Good afternoon, you're speaking to Chaos Control & Crayon Girl, how may i help?) and monkey business by night.

It was very exciting but I left my home and reality for a crazy journey of enlightenment around Asia. So, here I am soaking up the sights and sounds of sunny Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and working for CLEO, the coolest mag ever. Thanks again for stopping by, sit back, relax and Happy Reading!

Day's at the beach...

Those are the best kinds of days if you ask me...

Just wanted to share a slice of paradise with you. I find photos like this keep me sane when all I can think about is work!

And of course, I'd like to crack a smile out of you so here's a photo Dean took when I wasn't looking, sneaky bugger...who says girls can't climb trees?

The little things...

Hello sweetpea...how are you? Having a good day I hope..

I've had a bit of a salmon day at work today so instead of giving in to the negative chatter that plagues me on such days I am adamant to take control and surround myself with love! So...
Today's post is about some things I am grateful for... As we all know, once you start its often hard to stop!

I am thankful for my camera...
And of course, thankful for the technology that comes with it because I can show you my favourite shot from last weekend:

Can you spot the little guy?

til next time lovelies...

Northward...

Dean and I decided to take a few days off. We booked a lovely motel in Orewa complete with lounge and spa bath. We had a fabulous time! The weather wasn't the best but I did manage to take some photos before it started raining. We had ice creams on the beach and walked around town where I found the most adorable op shop! I managed to score two gorgeous aprons and a vintage seamstress needle tin.

We got back yesterday in time for a farewell lunch for Dean's uncle and auntie.

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend thus far!

Love is in the air...

In the whisper of the trees
Love is in the air
In the thunder of the sea

And I don't know if I'm just dreaming
Don't know if I feel sane
But it's something that I must believe in
And it's there when you call out my name

(Sing it with me...)
Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

(Disintegrates into a fit of giggles...)

Love is definately in the air...and here i thought we were in a recession? Check out the number of bouquets my local florist had...I'm sure they had more in the shop but here's what was spilling out onto the sidewalk...

So why can't everyday be a celebration of love?
Happy Valentine's for tommorrow, my lovelies!

I will end this post in song...

"Love is in the air...Oh oh oh...Love is in the air......Oh oh oh..."

Birthday Parcel from Sweden!

So my best friend Gareth decided to do a semester in Sweden this year...he set off on his trip a little bit after Christmas. Last I heard he bought a bicycle that had tyres suitable for riding in the snow. How crazy would you have to be to ride around on a bicycle in snowy terrain - Gareth crazy that's what! Photos of him devouring the box of Dunkin' Donuts would've been more proof of his insanity but I didn't want to scare the children hehehe...I'm KIDDING!

Anyhoo, this arrived in the post yesterday. Perfect right down to the packaging - I heart old school brown envelopes like this one! I got some Swedish chocolates that had melted because our postbox is in the sun but not to worry, they have been labeled 'eat and die' to deter hungry flatties and are returning to their solid form in the fridge as i type this. He also got me some gorgeous knee high socks from Iceland and my fave thing - Gareth made a CD, like i mean made as in recorded one. He played music and sang...i kid you not, this CD is jam-packed with the loveliest guitar sounds and for as long as I've known this boy, I really didn't realize he could sing like that! I'm honoured to have my own copy...wish he'd autographed it though, I'm sure it would've made me some good money when he got famous!

Grr, I hope you're having fun over in Upssala G, NZ isn't the same without ya! Take care!

Domestic Goddess...

Aloha lovelies from sunny Auckland!

Don't ya just lalalala loooove summer?

I'm originally from Malaysia where it's summer all year round so i don't think it's too unreasonable of me to say i'd like it to just stay this way! Tee hee hee

Mmmm when i think summer in NZ i think, food...lots and lots of food...something just takes over and all i want to do is bake and cook!

I made vege patties for the barbeque the other day...

Kinda came up with my own recipe just like the first time i tried. I just didn't want it to fall apart like the last time. They were made from mashed pumpkin, sauteed eggplant in garlic, capsicum and spring onion. I finished it off with a quick dip in some egg and coated it in crushed cornflakes that had been seasons with pepper, salt and a little paprika.

So the test of time was whether it would hold its shape on the hot grill...

Houston, we have lift off!!
I was pretty happy with how they turned out but still trying to get over the fact that because there isn't any meat in it, it won't have that elastic consistency of a meat pattie, my vege pattie was crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside. Hmmm...any tips, tricks or suggestions?

Ooooh, last last Monday was Chinese New Year so i thought it only right that i paid homage to my Malaysian Chinese roots and cook up a storm (for those of you who don't know i'm half Indian and half Chinese, my parents eloped...but that is a story for another time hehehe). So i decided Chicken Laksa was to be made and hoovered down!

Mmmm...so simple and so yummy! All you've got to do is get your rice noodles (i like using the thinnest kind) soft, chicken steamed and shredded, prawns blanched and a good helping of beansprouts and place it all ready in a bowl. Meanwhile your Laksa gravy (i just use store bought laksa paste and coconut milk) should be boiling hot, your patrons hungrily waiting! Stirring is essential...

Finally spoon over large amounts of the soupy spicy Laksa gravy over the bowl of goodness and voila!

This post is making me hungry...when's lunch?

xoxo
